Job description: 

Legal Outreach is searching for an Associate Director of Academic Success to coordinate support for our students across programs, address student learning concerns, organize student engagement opportunities and collaborate across departments to ensure the academic success of all Legal Outreach students inside and outside of Legal Outreach programming. The Associate Director will oversee our advisory program for our students in Freshman, Sophomore and Junior year to ensure that students are held accountable while being provided with the necessary resources for their academic endeavors.  They will also coordinate Student engagement activities to ensure a strong supportive community is built at Legal Outreach in conjunction with our student communications council.  

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and assess support programs needed for student success. 
  • Manage daily activities related to individual and group advising program of Freshman and Sophomore students 
  • Provides direct supervision of academic advisors 
  • Collect, input and analyze student high school report cards with academic team
  • Recruit/hire academic tutors and provide oversight of Tutoring Program
  • Help families navigate high school transfer and special education options
  • Run monthly students of concern meeting to address student issues across the College Bound Program and complete adequate follow-up including scheduling individual student and parent meetings
  • Oversee and implement student community service and community building activities
  • Facilitate student Honor Council and Communications Council
  • Oversee Summer Philosophy and Study Skills program


Details

Type: Full-time, year round position

Location: Long Island City, NY with at least three days in office (hybrid)

Hours: Mon-Fri, 11:00 am - 7:00 pm, with some Saturdays 9:00 - 5:00PM

Job Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree in education field preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience working with middle school or high school-aged youth in an educational setting
  • Experience developing and implementing lesson plans for academic workshops
  • Experience working with family unit to ensure parental support
  • Experience managing a team and delegating responsibilities for optimal job success
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills dealing with staff, students, parents and community members
  • Willingness to work with students on an individual basis to mentor and counsel students needing additional support
  • Knowledge of, and experience working in, special education a plus
