Description

Allen-Stevenson seeks a dynamic, collaborative Spanish teacher to join a positive, motivated, and connected team for the 2024-2025 school year. Our award-winning K-8 Spanish program, developed by our dedicated educators, constantly asks the question, “Will this help our students to become the best versions of themselves both as Spanish students and also as human beings?”  Guided by principles outlined by ACTFL, our curriculum encourages boys to understand and challenge their language abilities along a developmental pathway to proficiency. More Information Here

Rather than adhering to thematic units, our approach emphasizes skill development, allowing our Spanish team the freedom to delve deeper into real-world, engaging content that resonates with our students. Key thematic concepts explored include identity, friendship, gratitude, perspective, interculturality, needs versus wants, conflict resolution, power dynamics, and privilege.

Our program offers two transformative abroad experiences designed to cultivate linguistic and interpersonal skills in authentic settings.  Partnering with the program "Soccer en Español", families of Kindergarten through Fourth-grade students have the opportunity to embark on a study abroad trip to Sevilla, Spain. Additionally, our eighth-grade students participate in a capstone service-learning trip to Costa Rica, where they engage with the community of La Carpio, home to 35,000 refugees. Through these experiences, boys gain a profound understanding of the role language plays in fostering meaningful human connections.

This part-time position starts on August 20, 2024, and is eligible for a complete benefits package. Compensation: $45,000-$65,000 commensurate with education and experience.
