Description

The Calyx Institute is seeking a Project Manager with management experience to help coordinate several of our project teams. The focus of this Project Manager role includes collaboratively developing roadmaps/milestones, gauging/tracking team capacity with workload concerns, and ensuring timely completion of project deliverables. Several of our projects will require coordination with outside/upstream groups and flexibility with what may initially be “moving target deliverables.” More software projects (have ideas?) will be brought into the pipeline over time in coordination with team leads and other project managers. Developing an org-wide system to help all the project teams succeed by fulfilling their contractual obligations and meeting their roadmap goals is an initial target for this role.

Ideal candidates will have experience managing the development of service architectures and complex software products. They should be energetic, unflappable and flexible, and thrive in a highly-technical collaborative environment. This person will be responsible for ensuring a productive, healthy work environment so relevant team members are able to contribute effectively and to the best of their abilities. Teams are distributed globally across multiple time zones, so the ability to organize and communicate asynchronously via chat platforms, email, Gitlab tickets, etc. is crucial. This person will be working across all teams, and work closely with team leads and other project managers. This position will report to the Engineering Director.

Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with team leads to calculate estimation for tasks on roadmap. Provide instruction to teams where needed and point them in the right direction; help them understand what is expected of them
  • Coordinate the transfer of information to and between the project teams, stake-holders, and greater Calyx community
  • Organize project meetings, help your teams plan their roadmaps, and show the teams how to improve their processes
  • Work with other project managers and directors to coordinate contingencies within other teams roadmaps
  • Work on grant proposals by providing your teams ideas for projects and the personnel needed for execution
  • Manage risks and issues that might occur while executing a project
  • Oversee roadmap execution and monitor each teams progress on their respective projects

  • Solid background in managing projects
  • Super organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of how to build great processes, no matter what tools the teams are using
  • Great facilitator
