Description

Position Overview: 

The Tool Library Manager plays a crucial role in managing the daily operations of The Makers Hub’s Tool Library. This position is responsible for overseeing the lending of tools and equipment, ensuring the collection is well-maintained and accessible to community members,

and coordinating workshops and classes. The manager will foster an environment of learning and resource sharing, contributing to the organization’s mission of promoting sustainability and community empowerment.

We are looking for someone(s) retired and knowledgeable in construction and landscaping tools. We currently need 1 or 2 people PT to share a 20-hour work week, and we hope to grow it to 36 hours within the next few months.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Library Management

a. Oversee the inventory management of tools and equipment, including cataloging, maintenance, and repair;

b. Implement and manage the tool lending system (Myturn.com), ensuring efficient check-in and checkout;

c. Monitor the condition of tools and equipment, scheduling maintenance and repairs as needed to ensure all items are safe and in working order.

2. Customer Service

a. Must be friendly and patient to assist library users in selecting appropriate tools for their projects and provide direction on proper tool usage;

b. Address and resolve any member's tool borrowing, returns, and usage issues.

3. Community Engagement

a. Engage with the community to promote the tool library’s resources and services through workshops, demonstrations, and events;

b. Facilitate collaboration with local organizations and community groups that reach out to The Makers Hub through in-person engagements.

4. Volunteer Coordination

a. Train and manage volunteers or interns to assist with library operations (processing donated tools, and tools that are returned) and assist in workshops and classes, ensuring that they reflect the high standards of community services expected of those who represent The Makers Hub.

5. Administrative Duties

a. Maintain accurate records of tool inventory, borrowings, and returns using the library's management software -  myturn.org;

b. Prepare regular reports on library usage, maintenance activities, and any incidents or damages.

6. Safety & Compliance

a. Ensure all library operations comply with relevant safety regulations and guidelines;

b. Assist in the development and implementation of safety protocols for tool usage, including providing safety equipment and training for library users and volunteers.

7. Continuous Improvement

a. Solicit feedback from library users and volunteers to improve the tool library’s services and operations;

b. Present ideas to the Director to improve operations, customer service, and community engagement.

Qualifications:

● Experience in inventory or library/borrowing management, customer service, and volunteer coordination preferred;

● Strong knowledge of tools and equipment, including their maintenance and repair;

● Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;

● Commitment to community service and sustainability.

Hours & Compensation:

The Makers Hub compensates at $32 per hour without extra benefits.

The schedule includes two 8-hour shifts on Fridays and Saturdays plus a 4-hour shift on Sundays. As funding increases, there may be opportunities for additional hours.
