Music and the Brain Partner Acquisition Consultant

Request For Proposals (RFP)

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Music and the Brain (MATB, a program of the nonprofit Building for the Arts NY, Inc.) provides a school-day, general music curriculum using whole-class piano instruction. Aligned with National Core Arts Standards, MATB provides sequential K-8 music lessons, ongoing music educator support, piano/keyboard labs, physical and digital teaching materials, and an award-winning web-based platform for digital inclusion. Music and the Brain’s web platform offers educator and student accounts for access anytime and anywhere. We train the schools’ music teachers to conduct weekly MATB lessons and help students improve fine motor, social, emotional, critical, and creative thinking skills with Music and the Brain.

On the heels of a robust impact evaluation from Columbia University’s Center for Arts Education measuring student and music teacher impact and 27 years of successful partnerships with 600+ schools in underserved communities nationwide at no cost, Music and the Brain seeks to diversify funding support with an earned income strategy from school districts with resources to invest in music education curriculum at public, charter, independent, and private elementary and middle schools.

BACKGROUND:

Music and the Brain (MATB) is a program of the nonprofit Building for the Arts NY, Inc. that provides an engaging solution to a critical problem facing educational systems: how to help students build critical thinking, fine-motor, cognitive, social, and emotional skills during the school day using different modalities to reach all kinds of learners.

MATB is a one-of-a-kind program that addresses many of the most pressing issues music educators face in a single, comprehensive package. Music and the Brain builds needed skills in students through a sequential, multi-year music literacy curriculum using whole-class keyboard instruction and web-based technology.

MATB also provides individualized support and ongoing coaching for music educators. 98% of MATB teachers say they are more effective because of the support of Music and the Brain.

MATB lessons are taught from our web platform, Music and the Brain All Access (learn.musicandthebrain.org). Our platform was honored with a Fast Company 2021 Innovation by Design recognition and a 2022 Anthem (by Webby) Award. It is an indispensable tool for classroom instruction and at-home learning. Music teachers seamlessly integrate visual, audio, and video resources into their classroom lessons, and students can continue their interaction with lessons at home. We provide over 10,000 lesson resources across 230+ song lessons from around the world; culturally representative videos for an engaging learning experience, and a state-of-the-art virtual record-and-submit piano to allow students to hone their prowess 24/7. Music teachers have a menu of options within each sequential lesson and flexibility in implementation to bring their creativity.

In the past 27 years, Music and the Brain has served more than 500,000 children in schools throughout the U.S. and presently serves 385+ schools in New York City, Miami, Philadelphia, Nashville, Newark, New Orleans, Ferguson, and other cities.
