SUMMARY

UnidosUS’s active and productive relationships with its network of almost 300 Affiliate organizations are at the heart of UnidosUS’s work and key to its ability to fulfill its mission to improve opportunities for Latinos throughout the country. The purpose of the Affiliate Engagement component is to contribute to the advancement of the organization’s strategic goals by stewarding relationships with Affiliates, identifying opportunities for strategic engagement, and coordinating supports that strengthen their organizational development.  This position is part of a team that is responsible for the day-to-day communications with UnidosUS’ Affiliates across the United States and Puerto Rico; promoting active participation; ensuring appropriate documentation and record-keeping of Affiliate relationships and engagement; and handle other related duties to support the work of UnidosUS. 

The Senior Specialist, Affiliate Engagement, supports the organization’s efforts maintain a robust and engaged network of Affiliates that helps advance UnidosUS’s mission and priorities.  This position directly oversees membership compliance processes and helps to develop & execute a membership strategy aligned with organizational priorities. Responsibilities include managing the Affiliate membership program, including affiliation, recertification, and expiration processes, as well as supporting other aspects of management of the network, including communications and data management.  This position mainly supports the management of the national network while at the same time supporting the advancement of the organization’s strategic direction in the state of Texas.  This position reports to the Director of Affiliate Engagement and works closely with the Manager of Affiliate Engagement.

To be successful in this role, the Senior Specialist must maintain a solid understanding of best practices in membership management and the opportunities to strengthen the composition and engagement of the entire network, as well as an ability to contribute to strategic engagements with Affiliates in the state of Texas.

The position is hybrid and will be based in San Antonio, TX or Austin, TX.

Salary:

San Antonio: $72,647 - $80,610

Austin: $75,876 - $84,193

Essential Functions

Lead Management of Affiliate Membership Program (50%)

  • Recertification and ComplianceMaintain the membership recertification protocols for existing Affiliate members, including periodic review of application questions and system processes.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to review and organize feedback of the recertification process, making recommendations to AE management on improvements or changes.
  • Consistently review and monitor affiliate membership compliance, leading team to support outreach and re-engagement of affiliates.
  • Maintain current on best practices in management of network memberships and make recommendations to Director of Affiliate Engagement for potential changes and adjustments to be considered.
  • Affiliation and ExpirationContribute to the refinement of the organization’s membership strategy in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders guided by the UnidosUS organizational strategy.  This includes evaluation of membership benefits and alignment with partnership value proposition.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to determine strategic opportunities to grow the network and maintain a prospect list for new Affiliate partnerships.
  • Lead the recruitment, affiliation, and onboarding of new Affiliates in compliance with governance requirements established by the UnidosUS Board of Directors, and with support from regional liaisons.
  • Lead expiration of Affiliates when there no longer is alignment in the partnership. This includes making recommendations for expiration based on compliance, engagement, and history of relationship.
  • Develop draft materials for reporting to UnidosUS Board of Directors on new affiliates and expired Affiliates.

Support General Member Services (20%)

  • Assess trends in Affiliate participation and identify challenges and opportunities to provide recommendations that maximize engagement of Affiliates.
  • Support outreach efforts to Affiliates on key UnidosUS events such as the Changemakers Summit, the Annual Conference, and the Fall Regional Convenings.
  • Support the maintenance and distribution of the of weekly digital Affiliate newsletter, including sourcing content.
  • Support maintenance of the Affiliate Data Center systems.
  • Build out appropriate workflows within project management systems to support team on institutional initiatives and deliverables.

Support Local Outreach and Strategy (20%)

  • Support the management and strategic engagement of Affiliates in the Texas region, including monitoring needs and assets and offering recommendations to maximize their engagement.
  • Understand the organization’s core areas of work and how these may intersect with the interests and capacity of the Texas Affiliates.
  • Support the development and execution of the organization’s Texas state strategy, including an engagement strategy in the city of Uvalde, that can include engagement of existing Affiliates, recruitment of new Affiliates, and identification of additional partners to advance strategy.
  • Develop an active understanding of the landscape of Hispanic-serving organizations beyond UnidosUS Affiliates in Texas.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from other teams and external partners to facilitate convenings with Texas Affiliates.

Support Advancement of Organizational Strategy (10%)

  • Build relationships between AE and UnidosUS internal components and develop understanding of each teams’ initiatives with Affiliates.
  • Provide AE perspective on cross-component collaborations and other organizational initiatives to elevate Affiliates when needed.
  • Co-lead new staff orientations to inform colleagues of the Affiliate Network and how to engage AE on leveraging the Network.
  • Work closely within the External Affairs team, providing a perspective on how communications efforts and engagement of external stakeholders can best benefit from inclusion of Affiliates. 

Qualifications & Requirements 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 5-8 Years of experience required in Non-profit organizations, network-based membership management, network governance, and event coordination.
  • 5 years of experience with databases or association management software
  • Demonstrated experience working in non-profits, community- based organizations, and diverse communities in Texas.
  • Solid understanding of the history and context of current social, political, and economic factors affecting the Latino community in the US.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Latino civil rights issues and awareness of the policies that impact Latinos and their families.
