Position: Gender Violence Prevention Coordinator

Reports to: Senior Prevention Strategist 

Location: Work from home anywhere in WA state. Seattle workspace available. Must be available to attend regular in-person meetings and for periodic travel. 

Classification: Exempt, 1 FTE

Pay & Benefits: $63,500 to $71,000 DOE

• 35-hour work week

Our mission is to mobilize our over 70 member programs and allies to end gender violence through advocacy and action for social change. We improve how communities respond to Gender-based Violence (GBV) and create a social intolerance for abuse, support our member programs, and inform the public. Guided by our Theory of Change, we work to undo the root causes of violence, building racial equity, economic justice, and gender and reproductive liberation to create a world where all people can live and love freely without fear. WSCADV’s team approach facilitates the sharing of power and responsibility across positions.


This is a new position that will:

• Provide training and technical assistance to community-based domestic violence and sexual assault programs and other interested organizations related to the Department of Health Rape Prevention and Education Program;

• Develop and support peer learning communities of preventionists;

• Support Team Up Washington to engage high school coaches and student athletes;

• Help create public education messages and tools;

• Support the development of prevention and educational products;

• Contribute to innovation in prevention and a vision for social change.

For prevention, we build skills among our members, engage the public, and address underlying conditions that allow violence to continue. This includes addressing society’s overreliance on crisis services and criminal legal response to end abuse. This position works in coalition with our membership and community-based organizations and builds alliances and contributes to a prevention vision on issues such as reproductive justice, economic resilience, and restorative/transformative justice.


Responsibilities:

1. Staff the Department of Health (DOH) Rape Prevention and Education program including sub-recipients’ prevention programs and DOH’s Gender Based-Violence Collaborative (GBVC). Work with WSCADV staff to collaboratively plan, comanage, and facilitate regular meetings and projects.


2. Convene and support peer learning communities of preventionists to share knowledge, encourage innovation and creativity, and support collaboration on the 4 domains of prevention (promoting healthy relationships, shifting culture, building skills, and addressing root causes).


3. Train and provide technical assistance, virtually and in person on topics such as:

• GBV primary prevention approaches.

• Public health and equity-centered framework (primary prevention, social and structural determinants of health)

• Social ecology model.

• Community- and society-level prevention strategies.

• Social and structural determinants of health.

• Shared risk and protective factors.

• Causes of disproportionate experience of risk factors and health inequities.


4. Work collaboratively with the DOH and gender violence prevention professionals to advance best practices and address racial equity and economic resilience aligning with WSCADV’s Theory of Change.


5. Contribute to the Department of Health State community-based program evaluation design that informs the state action plan for prevention efforts.


6. In collaboration with the Economic Justice Coordinator and other WSCADV staff provide training and technical assistance to preventionists in activities that strengthen economic support such as:

• Increased access for flexible financial assistance for families seeking housing, The Working Family Tax credits, Guaranteed Basic Income programs, affordable childcare and health care coverage and microfinance programs.


7. Staff and support Team Up Washington initiative statewide, reaching high school coaches and student athletes.

• Coordinate training logistics, promote and recruit participation, contribute to curriculum content and evaluation in partnership with training faculty, and support participants participation in Team Up Washington.

• Provide technical assistance for coaches and Athletic Directors to successfully implement the curriculum in their respective schools, e.g., responding to coaches who have questions and concerns about gender-based violence in schools, Title IX, or working with the administration.


8. Collaborate with WSCADV Communications Coordinator and relevant staff to develop messages and skill-building tools that support the Four Domains of Prevention for use across digital platforms and in trainings.


9. Work with administrative staff to support the distribution of prevention and educational products to preventionists.


10. Coordinate grant and contract funds. Ensure timely completion of activities. Prepare and submit budgets and financial, data, and narrative reports. Ensure grant compliance.


11. Teamwork:

• Work closely and effectively with the finance team, staff, and member programs.

• Perform other general WSCADV staff duties related to annual conference, Refuse To Abuse® Game Day, advocacy days, regular in-person staff meetings and gatherings, and other duties as assigned. Occasional travel within WA state is required (e.g. to annual conference location).

• Participate in domestic violence, multicultural, and anti-oppression activities and trainings, and perform all work in a culturally responsive manner consistent with WSCADV’s mission and Principles of Unity.


Qualifications

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong working knowledge of principles, best practices, and promising approaches for gender violence prevention.

• Strong working knowledge of the public health model of violence prevention.

• Demonstrated experience working on race, economic, and gender equity in local communities or community groups, as well as commitment to WSCADV’s mission, Principles of Unity, and Theory of Change.

• Strong knowledge of racial, economic, intersectional and gender justice issues.

• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with ability to create workplans and timelines, and follow-through to meet deadlines.

• Experience with community organizing, or coalition-building on domestic and sexual violence or related social justice issues.

• Ability to communicate meaningfully to diverse audiences on applied prevention strategies, programs, and models for community level engagement approaches.

• Proven ability to build trust and work with communities most impacted by violence.

• Strong oral and written communications skills.

• Demonstrated experience in providing training, facilitation, and developing messages for a wide range of audiences including multi-sector partner organizations (e.g., housing provider, health care, school.)

• Ability to work effectively and non-judgmentally with domestic violence/sexual assault programs, and community-based organizations and related multi-sector partners.

• Basic knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) grant budgets and reporting.

• Support the process of translating state and program evaluation findings and data into action for continuous improvements in prevention activities.


Required Experience

• At least 3 years of experience in domestic violence and/or sexual assault prevention efforts, or related community organizing.

• At least 2 years of experience in utilizing a public health model to develop and implement prevention strategies.


Preferred Experience

• Strong familiarity with movement to end domestic violence/sexual assault and advocacy services in Washington.

• Experience with student athletic programs and ability to work with coaches, and middle or high school classroom instruction.
