Description

The Karsh Family Social Service Center (the “Karsh Center”) is in the heart of Los Angeles’s Koreatown neighborhood. The Karsh Center, established in 2016, is a social service center offering integrated services focusing on Food and Nutrition Security, Health and Wellness, Community Services, and Parent and Child Well-being for individuals and families living in the vicinity of the Karsh Center. Centralizing these services directly with the assistance of volunteers and through a collaboration of providers at the Karsh Center enables us to offer a variety of vital services to our community. The Karsh Center is a 501 (c)(3) non-religious organization.

Primary Responsibilities

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Registered Dietitian to join our team and contribute to our mission of providing nutritious food to those in need. The Registered Dietitian will need to be bilingual in Korean/English or Spanish/English and will work across Food and Nutrition Security Programs Karsh Mobile and Food Pantry. The Registered Dietitian will work directly with our Program Manager and Program Coordinator. This is a contract position with scheduling to accommodate project-based needs. This position reports to the Karsh Center’s Program Manager.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Nutrition Counseling and Education Support for Karsh Center’s Food and Nutrition Security Programs
  • Conduct nutritional assessments for homebound clients in Karsh Center’s
  • Karsh Mobile Program and develop personalized grocery bags. Collaborate with the Program Manager and Karsh staff to ensure a variety of nutritious food options are available.
  • Stay informed about the nutritional challenges faced by the community and adapt programs accordingly.
  • Keep accurate records of client interactions and nutritional assessments.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive food safety protocols in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Consult in the planning of meals (grocery bags) that ensure balanced, culturally appropriate, meal recipients’ specific dietary needs, using a nutrient analysis database.
  • Conduct inspections of Karsh Center Food Pantry areas: dry goods, fresh produce, and refrigeration storage to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
  • Consult in the development, creation, and distribution of customized grocery bags for Karsh Mobile’s meal recipients.
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of the current food pantry inventory management system.
  • Provide recommendations for optimizing inventory levels, reducing waste, and improving overall efficiency.
  • Train pantry staff on best practices for inventory management and use of inventory management tools.

  • Help build positive relationships within the team and external collaborators.
  • Communicate effectively with all Karsh staff as it relates to program and project information.
  • Communicate with Karsh staff and collaborators in a timely and organized manner.
  • Attention to detail is required and maintaining organized and updated records.

Qualifications and Prerequisites

  • Bilingual English/Korean or English/Spanish required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
  • Current registration as a Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • 3-5 years of experience working as a Registered Dietitian
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations
  • Commitment to addressing food insecurity and promoting community health
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, GSuite technology, and Mac OS
  • Comfortable learning new systems (training will be provided)
  • Excellent organizational, project management and time-management skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; detail-oriented
  • Proactive problem solver and critical thinker

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a non-profit or food assistance organization.
  • Experience working in a similar food delivery or home healthcare program.
  • Familiarity with community resources and support services.
  • Additional certifications in community nutrition or public health.
  • Familiarity with the unique nutritional challenges faced by homebound individuals.


This position is an independent contractor role and is project based by contract. Compensation details, including the hourly rate or project-based fees will be determined with the candidate. The position is hybrid with assignments onsite and some remote projects and meetings. The contract for this position allows for flexibility in scheduling to accommodate project-based needs.
