Description

 JOB DESCRIPTION

Development Director

Start Date: May 2024

Work Location: Remote

Supervised by: Executive Director

Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Salary Range: $90,000-$96,400

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Hand in Hand: The Domestic Employers Network (HIH) is a national organization committed to building a more just and caring economy starting in our homes and communities. Since our founding, our base of supporters, members and leaders has been multigenerational, multiracial, and cross-class, including people with disabilities.

HIH organizes people who employ domestic workers—nannies, house cleaners, home attendants, and home care workers— to make their homes fair and equitable workplaces, as well as to stand in solidarity with domestic workers in their fight to win labor rights and protections. Hand in Hand works closely with our sister organization, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and is committed to righting the historic wrongs, rooted in the legacy of slavery, that excluded domestic workers from our country’s labor and civil rights laws.

HIH also works on campaigns that fight for public investment in care for families, people with disabilities and older adults. This includes expanded access to home care and childcare as well as family-sustaining wages for workers. Our work is led and powered by people most affected - people with disabilities, older adults and families -  to win policy and culture change that is rooted in our core values of workers’ rights, racial, gender, and disability justice, interdependence and collective power.

HIH staff are located in California, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington and include parents, caregivers, former workers and current and past domestic employers. We seek to build an organizational culture that values care and sustainability. Over the last four years, HIH has grown significantly from a staff of thirteen to eighteen staff and from an annual budget of $1.5 million to $2.3 million. HIH’s leadership team includes the Executive Director, Deputy Director and Senior Communications Director.

HIH is a fiscally sponsored project of Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Development Director will lead HIH’s multi year fundraising program to raise the necessary funds to sustain and grow HIH and our work to create a just and caring economy through cross-class and multiracial movement building.

In partnership with the Executive Director, the Development Director will own the creation and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program including institutional, major gifts, events and membership. The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Director to develop a fundraising campaign in recognition of HIH’s 15th anniversary, which will kick off in December 2024. The Development Director will meet regularly and collaborate closely with the Executive Director. The fundraising team includes the Executive Director, Communications & Development Associate, Senior Communications Director, and a contract grant writer. All HIH staff participate in fundraising efforts. The Development Director will manage key relationships with individuals and institutions, identify and cultivate new sources of funding, and lead staff, Steering Committee, and members in building a culture of philanthropy throughout HIH.

We will be interviewing candidates in May with an ideal start date in June 2024.
