Description

Youth Art Exchange (YAX) is seeking experienced faculty artists to teach arts classes in a variety of disciplines during our Summer 2024 Session in partnership with Young Community Developers. 

Job Description:

The summer program is for SFUSD rising 9th graders and consists of a five-week long in-person session from 6/13-7/19 at Balboa High School in San Francisco, with no programming June 19, July 4 and July 5. .There is a mandatory staff orientation on 6/11 at Balboa High School.  The classes will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10-11:30 and 12:30-2:00 pm at Balboa High School. Faculty are expected to be on site 9:30-2:30. Our classes average a 20:1 student ratio. 

Candidates must be professional artists preferably experienced in working with urban high school youth. Candidates are responsible for developing and implementing an engaging age-appropriate arts curriculum for the program. Candidates must be available for the entire program. 

Faculty artists are paid hourly for class time, prep time (one-to-one with instruction time), scheduled faculty meetings, as well as regular check-ins with program staff. This is a temporary position.

Youth Art Exchange offers free after-school, weekend and summer programs in visual and performing arts to public high school students in San Francisco. Youth Art Exchange sparks a shared creative practice between professional artists and public high school students, furthering youth as leaders, thinkers, and artists in San Francisco. Our programs combine best practices in arts education and youth development. During the school year we offer seven visual & performing art programs (architecture, industrial + product design, fashion design, illustration, music production, darkroom photography, and printmaking).
