Overview:  AJC San Diego is AJC’s newest Regional Office and it is off to a strong start. The office is fast-paced with startup energy and a highly effective collaborative relationship between professional staff and lay leadership dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel, and to advance human rights and democracy in San Diego and beyond. 

The Assistant Director of will represent AJC San Diego and uphold AJC’s core values: Respect, Teamwork, Integrity, Excellence, and Accountability.

Job Summary

The Assistant Director will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission by overseeing and driving our advocacy and programming efforts. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of antisemitism, Israel, and the San Diego community, demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate and educate diverse audiences on these topics. In addition to content expertise, the candidate should be adept at managing projects, events, and programming initiatives, ensuring they align with our organizational goals. The Assistant Director of Advocacy & Programming is also responsible for cultivating positive intergroup and political relationships.

• Aligned with AJC’s mission and diplomatic style, with knowledge and passion for the organization’s key issues (Israel, world Jewry, human rights, international relations, foreign policy, and democratic institutions)

• Adept at time management with the ability to manage several projects at one time

• Availability to work evenings and weekends and to travel occasionally       

• A bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of professional experience

• Fluency in Spanish a plus

Job Responsibilities

Intergroup Relations:

• Develop and nurture relationships with the various communities that make San Diego great.

• Foster positive relationships through targeted initiatives and collaborations.

• Organize intergroup events and activities to promote understanding and collaboration.

Advocacy:

• Build and maintain relationships with elected officials at local, state, and federal levels.

• Collaborate with local and national colleagues to develop and implement strategies on legislative issues related to the Jewish community.

Content and Public Speaking: 

• Speak to and educate diverse audiences on AJC San Diego issues

• Stay updated on relevant developments and trends to ensure accurate and current content delivery.

Manage Projects:

• Plan, organize, and execute diverse programming initiatives.

• Oversee the coordination of events, ensuring smooth execution of project timelines.

• Any other tasks assigned by the Regional Director
