Position Summary
The Advancement Associate is a new, full-time position that will support the execution of the strategic vision for development, marketing / communications, and events. This person will be a key member of a small but mighty team managed by the Director of Advancement.
This role includes a variety of external relations functions and requires a diverse skill set, including the ability to think both strategically and tactically, willingness to be creative at times and analytical at others, and an intangible brightness of spirit and enthusiasm for the work. We are seeking that one-of-a-kind nonprofit professional who is a skilled and adept “utility player” with a willingness to take on both tedious tasks and big-picture planning – all with curiosity, courage, and deep commitment to K-12 education, equity, and youth well-being.
Responsibilities
- Development
- Oversee the Annual Fund, including email and postal mail appeals, social media, donor outreach, etc.
- Draft grant applications and grant reports
- Create annual report
- Marketing & Communications
- Manage timeline creation and coordination of communications calendar
- Manage WordPress website, including content, analytics, and SEO
- Manage advertising, including Google Ads and social media ads
- Collaborate with the team to brainstorm and test new marketing tactics
- Publicize thought leadership efforts, services, and events
- Events
- Plan and manage a variety of event types, including fundraisers, donor cultivation/stewardship events, webinars, convenings, staff retreats, and conferences.
- Produce high-quality, logistically precise events.
- Collect feedback from participants to assess the impact and effectiveness of events.
- General
- Support team in meeting revenue and fundraising targets
- Produce compelling written materials, including fundraising appeals, newsletters, copy, blogs, captions, etc.

To perform the duties of this role, candidates will need:
- Bachelor's degree and three to five years of relevant experience in nonprofit advancement functions such as development, marketing/communications, and event planning, or a combination of education and experience.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and high emotional intelligence
- Superior writing skills in multiple formats
- Strong project management skills
- Strong customer service skills; ability to respond in a friendly, welcoming manner when interacting with constituents
- Excellent attention to detail in written and visual materials, e.g. grammar, branding, etc.
- Advanced skills in Jotform, Airtable, Canva, Google Suite, Mailchimp, Salesforce, and WordPress (or similar platforms); ability to quickly learn new software.
