About the Opportunity

Reporting to and in consultation with the Vice President of Finance, the Compliance Manager will manage our organization's lobbying and compliance functions, ensuring adherence to all relevant federal and state regulatory standards. The Compliance Manager will focus on compliance-related activities pertaining to fundraising registrations, state and federal lobbying, and conflict of interest disclosures. The candidate will also support financial compliance activities and special projects as needed. The Compliance Manager will develop and implement cross-functional compliance training programs and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimize best practices.

Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Compliance Oversight: Determine the best approach between in-house management and outsourcing of compliance reporting based on risk and cost assessments. Oversee contractors when external expertise is hired.
  • Annual Compliance Functions: Ensure meticulous management of fundraising registration processes, state and federal lobbying registrations, conflict of interest disclosures, Delaware incorporation, and reporting related to our Orlando Office location.
  • Training and Education: Curate and facilitate compliance training programs for staff and stakeholders, focusing on 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) tax-exempt status requirements, lobbying compliance, and advocacy limitations.
  • Regulatory Collaboration: Work closely with legal counsel and external advisors to interpret and apply tax, lobbying, and fundraising regulations effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with emerging compliance trends and best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within the organization.
  • Internal Controls: Develop and implement robust internal controls and procedures to prevent compliance violations, conducting regular audits and assessments to ensure adherence to all regulatory standards.
  • Financial Compliance: Assist the VP of Finance with fiscal compliance activities, including tracking lobbying costs and ensuring compliance with lobbying caps and reporting requirements.
  • Financial Support: Assist the VP of Finance with financial special projects as needed.

Who You Are

You are hyper-organized, detail-oriented, and possess excellent judgment. Your ability to interpret financial data into compliance formats and manage multiple priorities will be crucial. Additionally, having experience with contracts and a strong understanding of government compliance requirements will set you apart.

What You’ll Need

  • Educational Background: At a minimum, a 4-year degree from an accredited educational institution in a related field, such as Finance, Business Administration, Law, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience in financial project management. Experience managing compliance functions and collaborating with legal counsel is highly preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills are essential for educating and training staff and for effective collaboration with internal teams and external advisors.

The Clean Slate Initiative is committed to transparent and fair compensation. The hiring range for this position is an annual salary range of $85,000 - $92,000 per year. The final salary within this range will be determined based on work location and relevant experience. Once an offer is made, we do not negotiate the compensation package. 

This is a full-time position and is considered exempt for overtime purposes. This is a remote position and we are location agnostic regarding where in the US you are based. However, we will discuss a hybrid or in-office work location for candidates in proximity to our Orlando office. You will need to:

  • Work collaboratively with a team in various time zones
  • Be close to a major airport with the ability to travel approximately 10-15% 
  • Attend required quarterly onsite planning meetings in various locations
  • Attend at least 1 staff learning trip and our annual convening each year
