Description

The Healthcare Career Advancement Program (H-CAP) is a national Labor/Management organization that supports and promotes career ladder education for the healthcare workforce. H-CAP also staffs an affiliated 501 (c) (3) organization, the H-CAP Education Association (EA), focused on program and staff development of labor/management and union-based training partnerships in healthcare workforce development.

H-CAP is seeking a Project Coordinator in Western Michigan to work with the H-CAP team on the development and implementation of a robust workforce development program and various organizational educational initiatives that support a labor-management partnership in the Michigan Nursing Home Industry. Travel within the state required. The position reports to H-CAP’s Program Manager.

Salary: Full-time, grant funded position.

Location: Northern Michigan which includes Petosky, Gaylord, Hillaman, Alpena, Sutton Bay, Garfield Twp., Traverse City, Midland and Mount Pleasant.

Essential Functions:


  • Conduct outreach, coordination and tracking for a new initiative working with Nursing Home workers in multiple nursing homes throughout the state of Michigan.
  • Providing training that improves existing skills, develops new skills.
  • Educating members about retention benefits available through their employer.
  • Provide on-going coaching and career counseling to members.
  • Offer continued follow-up with members.
  • Work closely and communicate with program beneficiaries, local unions, and employers
  • Provide one-on-one  support to program participants to guide them through the various application processes.
  • Serve as the initial  contact person for beneficiaries, local unions, and employers, answering questions and providing support with a focus on excellent customer service to encourage program participation.
  • Other projects as assigned by the Program Manager and/or Executive Director

Skills and or Experience Required:

  • Sound decision making and organizational skills.
  • Ability to present information to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and in database software
  • Excellent social skills
  • Ability to work independently and seek help when needed.

WORKPLACE PRACTICES AND POLICIES

Classification: (Full Time/Part Time) (Permanent/Temporary) (Non-Exempt/Exempt), At Will (choose from each set of parentheses)

Location: Remote Hybrid. Must be located in Western Michigan and available to travel to nursing facilities in assigned areas.

Interviews for this position will be conducted via Zoom.

Travel Requirements: Employees may be asked to attend meetings and/or events that will require travel as part of their job duties. H-CAP holds at least 1 weeklong conference per year and other multi-day meetings that are mandatory for all staff. This position will require travel to various nursing home facilities across the state.

Work Hours: H-CAP employees are expected to be available during normal business hours (e.g., 9:00am to 5:00pm) in their time zone. Some weekend and evening work will be required.

Remote Work and Equipment: Employees must provide a workplace that has sufficient space for work and allows for only minimal disruptions. H-CAP will provide a phone, laptop, mouse, keyboard, external monitor, and devices to connect those items. H-CAP will not provide furniture. Employees may elect to use their own phone and will receive a $50/month stipend. Employees must have a data plan sufficient for the employee to conduct regular business using the phone. Employees must also have access to a minimum acceptable internet speed of at least 25MB download speed and 10MB upload speed. 

Sole Employer and Conflicts of Interest


Full time employees are hired and continue in H-CAP’s employ with the understanding that H-CAP is the employee’s sole employer, and that other employment is strictly prohibited. No employee shall be affiliated with any provider of goods or services to H-CAP in any manner that conflicts with the interests of H-CAP.
