POSITION: Associate Director of Institutional Advancement

STATUS: Full-Time

LOCATION: NYC Tri-state area (Hybrid, ability to travel within NYC as needed)

START DATE: Immediately

Literacy Partners strengthens families through a two-generation approach to education. With our free classes, community-based workshops, and educational media, low-income parents develop the literacy and language skills they need to succeed in today’s world. Our research-based curriculum also incorporates child development and parenting support to help parents boost their children’s early reading, school readiness, and social-emotional growth.

The Position: The Associate Director of Institutional Advancement is in charge of institutional revenue streams (foundations, corporations, and government entities), leading strategy development, managing institutional relationships, and overseeing execution. Primarily focused on foundation fundraising, this position works in partnership with the Executive Directors of our programs to source new leads and make meaningful connections, and executes cultivation and stewardship strategies.

The Associate Director of Institutional Advancement will also work closely with the Chief External Affairs Officer on expanding our city, state, and federal government contracts, and work with team members to build a robust corporate giving portfolio. This position ensures grant compliance and timely preparation of invoices and reports to funders.  

Reporting to the Chief External Affairs Officer, the Associate Director of Institutional Advancement is a member of the Development-Marketing-Communications department and will join our diverse, social justice-oriented team of almost 30 staff and more than 100 interns and volunteers. 

Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Institutional Advancement will develop and execute a robust strategy to increase and sustain institutional funding. 

  • Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive strategy and implementation plan for current, lapsed, and new institutional donors to meet fundraising goals. This includes cultivation and stewardship strategies.
  • Expand and diversify foundation donor pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for existing and new initiatives. This includes supporting our program Executive Directors to be active ambassadors with potential donors.
  • Manage the institutional pipeline, supervising proposal and report preparation and compliance to all grant requirements across the team. This includes using data and insights from donor management system to drive reporting and decision making across the portfolio and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of progress with funders.
  • Maintain relationships with institutional funders including producing grant applications, reports, presentations, invitations, and other correspondence associated with cultivating and soliciting funders, as well as leading the planning and execution of site visits, meetings, and events.
  • Lead all aspects of the solicitation and management of competitive government grants, including collaboration with internal staff and consultants in order to ensure our compliance and meet program goals. 
  • Work with team members to build out an up-and-coming corporate giving program to build a robust suite of volunteer and funding opportunities to attract corporate partners.
  • Support the leadership of LP’s two program departments to develop and manage grant budgets, invoices, and reporting to ensure compliance.
  • Work with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual invoices to government funding sources, and reconciliations with general ledger.
  • Supervise the Director of Institutional Giving and consultants.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience and success cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts from foundations in particular, as well as corporations and government entities. Experience in non-profits preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of institutional fundraising landscape and trends.
  • Ability to represent the organization to prospective and current funders, and elected officials.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, planning, and goal-setting skills. Confirmed strength in project plan development, management, and execution; an ability to drive sophisticated, multifaceted projects forward to deliver results on time.
  • Proficient in data analysis and using data insights to drive action.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, and proven relationship management skills.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, Raiser’s Edge and NYC government portals (e.g. Passport, HHS Accelerator), Grants Gateway
  • Great sense of humor

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $85,000-$100,000
