About Acacia Center for Justice:

The Acacia Center for Justice (“Acacia”) provides legal support and representation to immigrants facing deportation through the development, coordination, and management of national networks of legal services providers serving immigrants across the country. Acacia’s goals are twofold: to support immigrant legal services and defense networks to provide exceptional legal services to immigrants; and to advocate for the expansion of these programs and the infrastructure critical to guaranteeing immigrants access to justice, fairness, and freedom. Acacia ensures accountable, independent, zealous, and person-centered legal services and representation to protect the rights of all immigrants.


Job Summary:

The Budget Manager, Headquarters (HQ) implements the coordination and consolidation of Acacia’s operational budgets. The overall objectives of the position include tracking and reviewing certain types of organizational spending and ensuring that spending is on target and in accordance with Acacia’s budget guidelines. The HQ Budget Manager serves as the liaison between the Business Management unit and operational departments within Acacia. The Budget Manager reports to the Managing Director, Budget, Planning & Analysis.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Budgeting & Analysis

  • Monitor spending rates across Acacia’s internally-funded departments.
  • In liaison with the relevant budget lead, draft and review annual budgets; revise budgets throughout the fiscal year.
  • Ensure compliance with Acacia’s policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and disseminate the monthly spending report to project leads.
  • Analyze trends and advise the Managing Director, Budget, Planning & Analysis and CFO on areas of concern.
  • Other ad-hoc projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Managing Director, Budget, Planning & Analysis.

Financial Partnership & Stewardship

  • Act as the Business Management team’s focal point for all operational department budgets.
  • Regularly review and analyze budget vs actuals and inform budget leads of variances from target.
  • Address potential overspending in collaboration with the relevant budget lead.
  • Provides support and thought partnership to unit and project leaders in organization.
  • Explain financial information to non-finance leaders in an understandable and comprehensive way.

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Past experience with non-profit financial teams, US Government funding, and stewardship standards.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, data visualization, and use of databases.
  • Strong analytic problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time.
  • Solid communication skills, able to communicate clearly verbally and write in a motivational manner.

 Preferred Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Lived or affiliated experience with the immigration and/or criminal justice systems is a strong plus.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of 3 years in financial management.

Compensation and Benefits:


Acacia has established an internal compensation philosophy that centers equity and pay transparency. The salary for this position is set at $118,200. The salary listed is just one component of Acacia’s total compensation package for employees. Supporting Acacia staff—both personally and professionally—is our priority.
