Job Description

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all Dream Big! fundraising including, special events, major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundations, the Boston Marathon team & other race charity programs, grant proposals and reporting, in-kind donations, and capital campaigns. The Director will provide support in fundraising for the President & CEO and the Board of Directors.

The successful Director of Development has broad fundraising experience, will demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, will be comfortable making data-driven decisions, will possess strong relationship building and management skills, and will be comfortable serving as a spokesperson for the organization.

The Director will work out of the Dream Big! office in Needham 4 days per week with the option to work remotely on Fridays.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Full Time - fundraising position
  • Develop and implement the overall fundraising strategy for Dream Big!, building on strong relationships and ensuring success within each fundraising revenue stream
  • Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them.
  • Responsible for the fundraising budget planning and ongoing management.
  • Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors.
  • Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
  • Build the in-kind donation program with a focus on sporting goods donations.
  • Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
  • Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
  • Plan and manage all fundraising special events, including the annual Dream Big! All Star Gala & Auction.
  • Manage the Dream Big! Boston Marathon Team and other running-related fundraising programs.
  • Assess the effectiveness of current strategies and tactics and help the team pilot and trial new initiatives. 
  • Work closely with the President and CEO, the Board of Directors, and the National Advisory Board.
  • Make public appearances and accept speaking engagements to share information about the work Dream Big! does to empower girls and young women in underserved communities.
  • Set strategic direction for the Development Committee, National Advisory Board, and the Volunteer Event Committees, and drive revenue to achieve their financial goals in collaboration with the President & CEO. Liaise with the Dream Big! Board of Directors to maximize their fundraising efforts.
  • Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
  • Oversee the creation of publications to support fundraising activities.
  • Maintain gift recognition programs.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of senior-level professional development experience with increasing responsibility, relevant sales and/or business development experience. Experience in the Greater Massachusetts philanthropic community is a plus.
  • 3 years minimum experience in professional fundraising and special event management.
  •  Basic understanding of budgets and financial statements.
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising, grants, and special event management.
  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers.
  • Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to initiate donor meetings and fundraising calls.
  • Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, and good  listening ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Salesforce and/or Raiser’s Edge database experience a plus.
  • Passion for the mission of Dream Big!
  • Some travel is required

The Director of Development reports to the President & CEO.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience
