Description

UNITE HERE Philadelphia

Operations, Data and Administrative Organizers

UNITE HERE is hiring dedicated individuals into paid positions for our full-time Organizer Training and Canvassing Program. We are seeking students and activists from across the social justice movement who are committed to building the labor movement and working-class political power, defeating Donald Trump in November, and stopping the spread of fascism in the United States.

UNITE HERE Philadelphia ran the largest door-knocking canvass in Pennsylvania in 2022, and our hustle made the difference in both the gubernatorial race and keeping control of the U.S. Senate. We are aiming to go even bigger this year. Our strategy is simple: we engage people on the doors through deep canvassing and win, one conversation at a time.

Roles include:

  • Administrative support
  • Data analysis
  • Field support and logistics
  • Payroll
  • Travel and housing coordination

UNITE HERE Philadelphia (uniteherephilly.org/) is the hospitality workers union in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. We are 5000 food service, hotel, school cafeteria and casino workers in the Philadelphia region who have won a union in our workplaces, and the thousands of not yet organized hospitality workers in our city and region. Our fight for justice for hospitality workers is a fight for fair treatment and dignity both in and outside of the workplace. We need good union jobs, respect at work and in our neighborhoods, quality education for our children, an end to mass incarceration, racial and gender justice, immigrant rights and a safe and healthy environment for our families.

Responsibilities for the various positions include but are not limited to:

  • Admin: Produce and distribute correspondence; monitor and order office supplies; handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Data: Support and execute data entry and analysis across the lifespan of a campaign; analyze databases in search of insights for the organizing; create and produce reports on organizing metrics.
  • Field: Provide support to union and political leads, staff, union members, and canvassers in both the field and the office; participate in, provide support to, assist or direct others who are engaged in strenuous physical activities, including moving, loading, unloading and transporting audio/visual equipment, campaign literature in exceptionally large quantities, water, food, and other field and office supplies.
  • Payroll: Prepare all payroll related data necessary to process campaign payroll and meet submission deadlines, including coordination with canvassing teams to ensure proper documentation.
  • Travel/housing: Assist campaign’s travel/housing lead and union travel team in making travel arrangements for out-of-town staff, canvassers, and others, mostly through Egencia; assist campaign’s travel/housing lead and union travel team in searching for making housing arrangements for out-of-town participants; assist arriving staff, canvassers, and others to reach and check in at their housing. (This may involve driving.)

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Connection to UNITE HERE’s mission.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; at least basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and willingness to learn more.
  • Skilled in building relationships and working with others, especially organizers, to achieve goals. Must possess the ability to work independently and multi-task while working with tight deadlines or unexpected requests.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on premises as well as in designated alternate work locations.
  • Openness to learn new processes and procedures in a new work culture.
  • Driver’s license and willingness to drive.
  • Willingness to work long hours and ability to work a flexible schedule.

Start dates: Multiple start dates between May 13 and July 1.
