Description

The Anderson-Cabot Center for Experiential and Community-Engaged Learning (EXCEL) houses the school’s community service, travel, exchange, and study away programs. These programs aim to promote acceptance, cultural humility, and empathy within our student body. The Assistant Director will be a thought partner to the Director in pursuit of department goals, oversee the operational systems and processes, and forge relationships with outside organizations that will provide opportunities to do good. This highly collaborative role will also provide supervision and guidance for Noble’s faculty & staff acting as trip leaders, trip chaperones, and afternoon program chaperones. Finally, they will collaborate with the Director to review/ensure all EXCEL programs and partnerships align with Nobles’ mission and statements of commitment.

Systems Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations logistics of EXCEL programs and actively seek improvements and efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with EXCEL Director to conduct ongoing audits of systems, policies, procedures
  • Collaborate with EXCEL Director to optimize processes including: 
  • EXCEL Trip Applications/Enrollment/Placement 
  • Data entry and collection of Trip Documents
  • Risk Management Procedures for school-wide overnights 
  • Service Hours, Submission and Approval 

Extended EXCEL Team Leadership 

  • Supervise the “Extended EXCEL Team” which includes the faculty and staff that deliver EXCEL programs (approx. 10  Afternoon Program Chaperones, 14 trip leaders, 30 Trip Chaperones per school year)
  • Cultivate engaged trip leadership and chaperone support
  • Evaluate performance and provide feedback
  • Train faculty & staff on the use of systems, processes, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and risk management protocols

Student Engagement:

  • Spearhead initiative to increase student meetings with EXCEL team to promote meaningful community service/EXCEL Engagement within student body
  • Deepen the culture of reflection that connects student’s EXCEL engagement to academic and personal growth.
  • Enhance and support opportunities for service in the Middle School
  • Serve as Advisor to Community Service Club

Community Engagement:

  • Investigate the impact of service hours graduation requirement and make recommendations
  • Forge deep relationships with local organizations, non-profits, and international partners to create service opportunities for our students that have a positive impact
  • Collaborate with community partners to develop service projects that address real-world needs and align with the school's values
  • Conduct Site partner Check-ins for the Afternoon Program
  • Coach 1 season of Community Service Afternoon Program

Exchange Program

  • Support host faculty in their planning and execution of exchange visits 
  • Coach host parents on how to create a meaningful experience for their guests
  • Review and approve exchange visit schedules and activities

Data Reporting and Evaluations 

  • Debrief trips with leaders and chaperones after they return
  • Facilitate post-trip feedback and data collection for EXCEL trips 
  • Contribute to year-end reports 

Other

  • Align student-driven fundraising with mission-driven outcomes   
  • Support/Promote EXCEL initiatives and events and represent EXCEL Internally and Externally 
  • Coach one season of afternoon program outside of Community Service  

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional experience required
  • Proven experience in program development and management in experiential education, community service, or travel programs
  • 5-7 years of experience supervising educators or direct service staff 
  • 5+ years experience in risk management specific to serving student/youth populations in experiential education and travel programs 
  • Track record of operational process improvement in non-profit or educational spaces
  •  Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to inspire and engage students and faculty
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and community partners.
  • Passion for community engagement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant Master's degree or certification
  • Knowledge of Boston Metro/Dedham non-profit landscape and community needs
  • Experience leading anti-oppressive community engagement initiatives and proven commitment to DEI practices
