Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Community & Health Programs, the Activities Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating a program of activities responsive to the varied client population of the Center for older adults.  The Activities Coordinator works collaboratively with other center and LSH staff, older adults, and volunteers to make the center an inclusive and welcoming space for all members of the community.

Primary Responsibilities:  

Activity and Event Planning & Implementation

  • Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates socialization, recreation and education programs such as classes, exercise, special events, trips, speakers and consultants
  • Collaborates with the Director to meet and respond to needs of the clients
  • Solicits input of center participants when planning all aspects of program through post activity surveys, the Advisory Council, town meeting and suggestion box
  • Purchases program supplies such as prizes, materials, meal embellishments, and decorations.
  • Plan trips and outings, including travel arrangements
  • Decorate center for holidays/parties/seasons with help from volunteers and other staff, as needed
  • Plan therapeutic small group activities in consultation with the center members, Director, and Community Wellness Manager
  • Works with the volunteer coordinator to plan activities involving volunteers and supports directing volunteers during center and pantry activities
  • Identify members for small and large group activities; provides one-to-one encouragement with seniors to engage in center activities and services
  • Supports food programming, including pantry and farm stand, as needed

Administrative Duties

  • Creation and distribution of monthly center newsletter and e-newsletter
  • Creation and distribution of flyers and sign-up sheets for events
  • Takes & tracks payments for center events and trips
  • Maintains a record of program resources, i.e. consultants, speakers, trip materials, transportation, etc.
  • Ensures that client activities are recorded in funder and internal databases
  • Participates in center and agency staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in providing activities coordination, event planning/coordination, and/or social service program coordination
  • High energy, positive disposition, sensitivity to the needs of the older adult
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook and Word
  • Experience using Mail Chimp and Canva or similar virtual communications tools
  • Team orientation and high level of comfort asking for assistance from co-workers when needed
  • Ability and willingness to de-escalate clients and volunteers, as needed
