SUMMARY

The Director, Integrated Communications leads the planning, creation, and delivery of integrated communications campaigns in support of a portfolio of UnidosUS’s program and policy work areas. Reporting to the Deputy Vice President of Communications and Marketing (DVP), the Director, Integrated Communications serves as the “front door” to Marcomm for the assigned program and policy teams, providing strategic communications expertise and ensuring alignment of communications activities across UnidosUS related initiatives. Equally important is their role as a strategic thought partner to their stakeholders, bringing or developing deep knowledge of related issues. This combination of subject matter and communications expertise enables them to shape storytelling that inspires policymakers, funders, community-based organizations and Latino communities to action. Likewise, as both strategist and project manager they collaborate across the marcomm team and with external agencies to plan and drive campaign implementation within budget and timelines. Throughout their work, the Director, Integrated Communications seeks to measure and optimize campaigns by creating evaluation plans, providing reports that include actionable insights, and applying learnings to deliver communications with maximum impact.   

This position is hybrid and based in Washington, DC. Depending on the candidate, we may be open to remote work, with periodic travel to Washington, DC.

Salary: $109,088 - $120,928

Essential Functions

1) Communications and Marketing Strategy:   

  • Serve as a liaison to assigned program and policy teams and develop quarterly and annual communications plans that ensure alignment of communications activities across both teams (e.g. workforce policy and workforce programs).
  • Provide guidance on communications best practices and facilitate cross-team collaboration to set, socialize, and update communications strategy for components, including objectives, audience definition, key messages, talking points and value proposition statements. 
  • Monitor UUS, Affiliate, and partner communications activities to ensure strategic alignment and consistency across communications channels.  

2) Campaign Planning & Implementation: 

  • Lead campaign planning with stakeholders and marketing and communications channel owners, including gathering requirements, setting campaign objectives, and defining scope.
  • Coordinate planning and implementation of cross-channel outreach strategies and campaign activities in partnership with marcomm channel managers, through the creation and ownership of a detailed project timeline that drives ensures alignment and drives on-time delivery.
  • Develop campaign measurement and evaluation plan, tracks metrics in collaboration with channel teams, provides reporting to stakeholders and optimizes campaign based on learnings. 
  • Represent assigned program and policy areas as a spokesperson when needed and represent marcomm in cross-component meetings or engagements with partners (including sister advocacy orgs, state/federal agencies, and corporate partners).

3) Storytelling and Content Creation: 

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the component area's work, collaborates with Editorial team to identify and source stories from Affiliates and other partners.
  • Write creative briefs that convey the campaign story/narrative and requirements to inspire excellence from internal and external creative teams.
  • Co-create, with in-house design, editorial, and social media teams and/or external creative agencies, the strategy and development of the [issues areas]-related written and visual content for distribution through communications channels. 

4) Marcomm Operations: 

  • Provide a “front door” to the Marcomm team across UnidosUS functions for any communications and marketing needs related to assigned component areas (eg. Workforce Development).
  • Work with Marcomm operations to provide cost estimates (including staff time), process/approve vendor invoices, track expenses, and provide reporting.

Qualifications & Requirements 

Education and Experience 

  • 10+ years of experience in communications or marketing, with at least 5 years working on a related issue, campaign, product, or service. 
  • Experience in end-to-end management of public communications/outreach campaigns, including managing processes and systems to integrate input, secure buy-in, and produce high-quality outputs within established timelines.
  • Experience in a breadth of communications channels and best practices across media relations, social media, digital marketing and thought leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of the current workforce and financial empowerment landscape and issues impacting the Latino community, and -related communications best practices, including experience translating complex topics to different audiences.
  • Travel requirement: 10%-20%, depending on location.
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Latino Community. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) skills.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Hispanic community, Hispanic nonprofit organizations, and the Hispanic market and consumer.
  • Experience successfully targeting Latino or diverse populations, including children, young adults, and minority groups, or working with workforce or financial empowerment partners.
  • Experience working with coalitions, public-private partnerships, and community-based organizations.

  • Proficient with project management software tools such as Basecamp and Monday.com. 
  • Intermediate to advanced level Microsoft 365 Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, One Note, Teams, SharePoint) 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to work under time pressure to meet deadlines. 
  • Well organized with an acute attention to details.
