Citizens & Neighbors for a Sustainable Redmond
Sustainable Redmond promotes sustainability through education, advocacy and community events. Incorporated as a Washington non-profit organization in early 2012, Sustainable Redmond has been a volunteer-based community organization since 2009. Our projects include promotion of sustainable lifestyles, energy conservation, climate action, alternative transportation, organic urban agriculture, preservation of biodiversity and the natural resources that surround our community. Sustainable Redmond participates in Redmond's annual Eco-Fair, has a number of volunteers that work with City and environmental non-profits to restore of our urban forest lands and is an active member of the regional sustainability network SCALLOPS (Sustainable Communities ALL Over Puget Sound). Recent advocacy activities of Sustainable Redmond include filing a land use planning appeal to preserve portions of an urban forest, developing proposed amendments to Redmond's Comprehensive Plan intended to preserve more of our tree canopy and commentary on aspects of the City budget. Two members of Sustainable Redmond currently serve on a regional taskforce focused on extention of light rail to our community and the value of affordable, walkable and equitable transit-based development near future rail stations.
