College Prep Program

About Us

The College Prep Program (CPP) has provided individualized advice, assisted with college applications, given students tools to succeed in college, and put program alumni on paths to achieve big dreams.  CPP has been successful in mentoring and advising 100 students to date.   CPP meets on Saturdays during the summer for 15 classes, totaling of about 100+ student contact hours.  Students make a commitment to the program of an additional two hours of homework each night.

The program has several major components:  selecting a college, applying to college, financial aid, planning for success, professionalism, and test preparation.  Motivational guest speakers, fun team projects, and campus tours are also important aspects of the summer.  This program is unique in that it leverages an all-volunteer staff to help students who have demonstrated strong academic potential and a commitment to success, but who have knowledge or opportunity gaps in reaching their potential.  The program has a strong mentoring component that focuses not only on the mechanics of completing applications and navigating the SAT exam, but also goal setting, exploring careers, and succeeding once enrolled in college.  Program participants are introduced to and encouraged to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields.
