About Us

Change someone's life - your own! Brighton & Hove Samaritans need listening and associate volunteers to help us answer over 40,000 phone calls, emails, text and visits every year from people in emotional distress.

After a full training programme, our listening volunteers are asked to commit to approximately 3-4 hours a week (flexible roster), including some unsocial hours.

Our associate volunteers fundraise, provide admin & IT support, publicise our branch and organise outreach events.

Visit the Samaritans main web site or contact us now for an invitation to a no-obligation information event: and look forward to what many of our volunteers describe as one of the most rewarding things they have ever done.

Skills/Qualifications:

Samaritans volunteers need to be able to listen. They can also:

- question gently, tactfully: without intruding - encourage people to tell their own story in their own time and space - refrain from offering advice and instead offer confidential emotional support - always try to see the other point of view, regardless of their own religious or political beliefs

Full training is provided including mentoring and ongoing support. Minimum age 18.
