About Us

Based out of the Urban Justice Center, the Corrections Accountability Project is an innovative initiative dedicated to eliminating the influence of commercial interests on our criminal legal system and end the exploitation of those it touches.


To this end, we work to expose the harms caused by the commercialization of justice and equip change agents with the tools to challenge it. We employ a two-prong strategy to tear down the commercial wall that blocks criminal justice reform and clear the road for lasting transformational change that brings us ever closer to abolishing prisons.


1. EXPOSE COMMERCIALIZATION

We conduct research, collect data, and perform innovative analyses aimed at unmasking To eliminate the influence of commercial interests on the criminal legal system and end the exploitation of those it touches the harms caused by the prison industrial complex. Understanding the mobilizing power of knowledge, we transform our analyses into accessible and compelling content designed to increase awareness and shift discourse around the commercialization of justice. 


2. ORGANIZE FOR CHANGE

We organize and lead campaigns that center on protecting and returning resources to directly-impacted communities. We empower and equip consumers, investors, public agents, elected officials, advocates, and the public with the tools to fight those who profit from our carceral crisis.
