Grandmother Project - Change through Culture
Grandmother Project - Change through Culture (GMP) is a Senegalese international association and an American nonprofit organization established in 2005. GMP's mission is to improve the health and well-being of women and children in developing countries by building the capacity of development partners to implement culturally grounded, grandmother-inclusive and intergenerational community programs.
GMP's innovative approach recognizes the central role of grandmothers, and elders in general, in matters related to women and children in non-Western cultures and harnesses their knowledge and natural leadership capacities to influence positive change on issues such as early marriage, teen pregnancy, female genital mutilation, and children’s education. The GMP strategy has also been used to address maternal and child nutrition/health, and pregnancy and newborn care.
