Aj'Kemaa Group: organic mayan textiles
Aj’Kemaa Group (meaning “woman weaver” in maya language) is a community development project that seeks to integrate 5 organic weavers associations of Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, into on big group in order to create synergies to expand their art to international markets and therefore, improve their local economy to provide a better quality of life to future generations. We also want to preserve our cultural identity by rescuing the ancestral knowledge of dyeing the fabrics with natural colors, and weaving our textiles with the backstrap loom technique.
