CO2 Bambu is an impact-oriented social enterprise headquartered in Granada, Nicaragua. CO2 Bambu began operations in 2008, working towards climate change mitigation through low carbon footprint bamboo-based housing and schools for vulnerable populations in Nicaragua. CO2 Bambu’s house designs specifically target housing deficits and climate vulnerabilities faced by base of the pyramid (BoP) population segments. Through the design, manufacture and field assembly of pre-fabricated low carbon houses, we create enhanced economic opportunities for low income and indigenous populations through inclusive business practices that involve beneficiaries at all stages of the bamboo value chain. Our traditional bamboo house designs provide substantially lower carbon footprint housing options compared to the current high carbon concrete block structures. In addition, we are currently developing a flood-resilient housing technology that provides climate adaptation solutions to BoP populations before, during, and after flooding events.
