Sustainable Threads is a for-profit fair trade company whose primary social mission is to create a space for marginalized people, especially low-income women, to earn a fair wage and work in healthy and safe working conditions.
We are an exclusively fair trade, eco-focused wholesale company promoting handmade lifestyle and home products. All of our products are hand crafted with fair trade principles by artisan communities in India-- fair trade is the core of our business. We work with over ten artisan cooperatives and ventures, benefiting marginalized communities including physically challenged, rural, and indigenous tribal people. We especially focus on working with women artisans.
Sustainable Threads was founded in New Jersey 2006 by Poonam, formerly a social worker in India, and Harish, a social-minded entrepreneur. We are approved members of the Fair Trade Federation & Green America.
