Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Volunteer - Shelter assists with rehabilitation services consistent with the client treatment plan. The Volunteer – Shelter also assists with Hotline referrals for DV shelter and community resources. In addition, the Volunteer – Shelter consults with team members and assists with shelter duties as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

1.     Assist with access to local resources for clients and hotline callers.

2.     Assist with facilitation of support groups.

3.     Assist with sorting donations and maintaining shelter cleanliness.

4.     Assist with children’s program and childcare.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

- Demonstrate a high level of integrity in assuming responsibility for actions.  

- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in varied situations.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.

- Interpret information to make decisions and recommendations.

- Ability to multi-task, set priorities and organize work responsibilities to ensure completion of assigned tasks within preset timeframes.

- Ability to effectively communicate and work cooperatively, maintaining a professional image, with employees, volunteers, clientele and outside entities of diverse cultures, education, social, and economic backgrounds.

- Ability to independently use standard office equipment such as fax, phone, printer, copier, scanner, computer.

- Ability to independently use and learn necessary software programs associated with position duties such as both internal and external Donor and other database systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, etc.).

 

VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE: (subject to change based on Center’s needs)

Actual schedule as agreed with Direct Supervisor and based on business/program needs.

 

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:

Supervisory Requirements: None.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Associate degree in related field

·        40-Hour DV Training (if you do not have the certificate, we will provide the training at no cost for committed volunteers!)

·        6-month commitment required

·        Must pass all applicable health, fingerprint/LiveScan and DMV clearances.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

·     The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the volunteer to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the volunteer is frequently required to:

a.   Walk

b.   Use hands to finger

c.   Handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear

d.   Stand and sit

e.   Reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or possibly crawl.

f.    Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

·     Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
