Join San Francisco Women Against Rape in the Movement to End Rape! Become a Volunteer Rape Crisis Counselor!

SFWAR's upcoming Winter 2024 trainings for direct service provision (providing support on hotline, peer counseling, and medical accompaniment) are scheduled to take place below. Training takes place every Tuesday and Thursday, 6 PM – 9pm and Saturdays, 9 AM – 4 PM, over Zoom. All training dates are mandatory. Please make sure to apply online if you are interested in any of the upcoming trainings. We accept applications year-round.

Winter 2024 Training Dates:

January 30th to March 16th

Women and gender non-conforming people of color from our prioritized communities are encouraged to apply. Our prioritized communities includes those who are marginally housed or homeless, youth, formerly incarcerated, LBTQI, Latina immigrants and those with disabilities. SFWAR's understanding of "woman/women" is based on self-identification. SFWAR supports and prioritizes the leadership of trans, gender variant, intersex, and gender non-conforming people.

SFWAR Rape Crisis Counselor Commitment:

We offer a rape crisis counselor certification training free of charge in exchange for a volunteer commitment of 32 hours a month for one year. Volunteers provide support on our 24 hour hotline, peer counseling and/or as a Medical Advocate. Please take the time to consider whether or not the 40-hour training schedule plus the 32 hours/month-one year commitment will work for you.

Monthly Volunteer Commitment:

Volunteers are required to provide direct services on our 24 hour crisis Hotline. Volunteers receive hotline calls from their own home. Hotline shifts available are as follows:

1am - 9am

9am - 5pm (Saturday & Sunday & when SFWAR office is closed only)
