Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of TASSC’s Career Development Coordinator (CDC):

  • Support survivors engaged in the Career Development Program with the following:
  1. Resume and cover letter creation
  2. Navigation of job search websites
  3. Job application assistance
  4. Interview preparation
  5. Email etiquette and professional communication tips; and
  6. Additional activities as needed in relation to career related goals.
  • Assist CDC in developing and facilitating career related workshops, hiring events, and career events
  • Perform research related to industry trends and identify material for TASSC’s Career Development Newsletter
  • Assist in the creation and management of a library system
  • Option to organize and lead an English conversation group; and
  • Assist with other administrative duties as required.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

  • None. This position reports directly to the TASSC Career Development Coordinator. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in field of expertise.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds who face barriers to employment.    
  • Experience and/or interest in working with immigrant populations and dedication to using TASSC’s trauma-informed and strengths-based model.
  • Excellent communication skills with a high aptitude for teaching.   
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, LinkedIn, resume writing, and using job search engines; comfort in familiarizing oneself with new technologies.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Self-starter with an ability to work independently. 
  • Strong sense of flexibility and interest in learning.       
  • Ability to use creativity and enthusiasm to motivate people and tailor learning activities to meet group and individual needs.
  • Good record-keeping skills to accurately track attendance and program participation.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Ability to function both independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated, confident, and comfortable working under pressure and in quickly changing environments.
  • Trauma-informed and sensitive listening and communication skills.      
  • A commitment to learning about the effects of torture on survivors, families, and communities.
  • Utmost level of confidentiality and sensitivity in working with survivors of torture.
  • Fluency in a second language a plus.
