Description

H.Y.P.E to Empower seeks qualified, skilled volunteers looking to build in multiple areas of life, such as: building resumes and gaining experience, enabling persons to gain higher pay for employment, learning a new skill, and giving back to the community.

The Community Public Health Educator will develop and manage health education programs that help individuals, families, and communities maximize and maintain healthy lifestyles. Collect and analyze data to identify community needs before planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs designed to encourage healthy routines.

Health educators should possess extensive experience in developing health education programs and the ability to determine educational needs. First-class candidates achieve sustainable results by actively involving the community in healthcare initiatives.

You do not need to be a specialist in HIV. 

ESSENTIAL TASKS (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude one from the position.)

Areas of public health:

Health Promotion: to positively support the health behavior of individuals and communities and the living and working conditions that influence their health.

  • Activities: Health promotion activities often take the form of HIV testing, utilizing evidence-based interventions for high-risk populations, social marketing, and media, advocating for the use of PrEP and nPEP, policy initiatives, condom distribution, providing capacity building and technical assistance to key partners, program planning and evaluation. To ensure that these programs are implemented effectively, it is necessary to develop program logic models. Health education promotion programs and intervention training, including workshops and community presentations, should also be established. Alongside this, programmatic support documentation must be created.

Key Activities may include:

  • Social Media MessagingWork with the curriculum team to create
  • Health-related content for HYPE training
  • program planning, and development (Implementation can be arranged)
  • and Developing evaluation design and tools.

Epidemiology: deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of diseases and other health-related factors. Specifically with HIV, the epidemiologic triangle focuses on (1) host-related factors (susceptibility and infectiousness), environmental factors (including social, cultural, and political), and agent factors (such as the type of HIV).

  • Activities: public health surveillance, field investigation, analytic studies, evaluation, and linkages.
  • Activities: designing data collection tools, data management, methods of describing and graphing, interpreting data, and writing and presenting science.
  • For volunteers, there will be an emphasis on biostatistics skills, which is applying statistical methods to scientific research in health-related fields. Familiarity with SAS, R+, SPSS, or applying logarithmic functions in Excel are highly recommended.

Key Activities may include:

  • Related research to compare to the program at hand

Health Policy: Takes form in the decisions, plans, and actions undertaken to achieve specific healthcare goals within a society, often by translating research findings and incorporating them into them in the development process.

  • HYPE will seek the assistance of health policy analysts to aid in setting internal policies and working alongside political action committees to introduce innovative policies for the community. These analysts will collaborate with HYPE to create cost-effective plans while ensuring policy compliance. The position requires combining data analysis skills and a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare system. Will also work with the strategic plan committee and contractors.
  • As a Health Policy and Development Volunteer, you'll play a vital role in building strong relationships with stakeholders to help expand our client base. You'll assist in developing MOUs and attend appropriate community training, whether virtual or in-person, depending on the location. Your strategic thinking skills will be used as you analyze community data to formulate effective organizational strategies. Additionally, you'll conduct internal training sessions and oversee projects such as strategic plans.

Skills:

  • Advanced computer skills: demonstrates the ability to use and create new databases and spreadsheets, data queries and reports, presentation and publisher software, and internet searches
  • Demonstrates Ability to facilitate planning processes with diverse groups
  • Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with individuals and groups from various backgrounds, interests, and experiences
  • Knowledge of community health assessment and planning models, methods, tools, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods and techniques for presenting material and engaging a wide variety of audiences in learning experiences, including but not limited to group process and facilitation, print and electronic educational materials, and formal presentations using a wide range of audio-visual equipment.
  • Knowledge of: epidemiology, disease prevention, health promotion, behavioral change, group process, community/organizational development theory, and techniques; adult learning theory and methods of instruction; quality management theory and techniques.

Time, Tools, Location:

  • We work off Eastern Standard Time
  • We do not have set hours per week.
  • We work off weekly check-ins. We expect you, as a volunteer to manage your hours to meet check-ins.
  • All Volunteering positions will be held virtually (via Zoom) with options for Hybrid in the state of GA.
  • This is a remote volunteer opportunity.
  • Meaning you can be located anywhere in the United States, provided you have a computer and a reliable internet connection.
  • This opportunity is flexible. However, we will work on the deadlines needed to ensure successful deadlines.
