Description

AmeriCorps Position - After School Program Assistant

As an organization grounded in the Latino community of Washington State, it is the mission of El Centro de la Raza (The Center for People of All Races) to build the Beloved Community through unifying all racial and economic sectors; to organize, empower, and defend the basic human rights of our most vulnerable and marginalized populations; and to bring critical consciousness, justice, dignity, and equity to all the peoples of the world.

El Centro de la Raza is looking for an After School Program AmeriCorps member for the 2023-24 year! Our Youth Service Programs follow students through their entire educational journey. Beginning in elementary school, we offer case management to children and their caregivers providing socio-emotional development through a culturally relevant lens. We provide afterschool programming through an applied ethnic studies curriculum that supports identity development, community advocacy, and critical consciousness. Scholars then find us at their high school offering ethnic studies curriculum in partnership with teachers. As scholars transition to adulthood, we offer a number of workforce connections and career counseling to ensure scholars build pathways towards meaningful lives. Alongside these programs, we integrate intergenerational support through monthly workshops in our ‘La Escuelita’ program, a parent/caregiver educational group. The Afterschool Program Assistant will support our afterschool program for 6th - 8th graders at our Seattle or Federal Way locations.

Duties include: Support implementation of lesson plans for afterschool program; Design of academic lessons that support and compliment classroom content; Provide 1:1 academic tutoring and mentoring for students; Design volunteer-led activities and provide training to volunteers for youth services volunteers; Design and produce culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate program outreach materials.

Benefits of an AmeriCorps position include: A monthly stipend to cover living expenses; An education award of up to $6,895 that can be used for future schooling or to pay off existing qualified student loan debt; Basic health insurance; and workers’ compensation coverage. AmeriCorps members must be citizens of the United States. Positions begin as soon as this month and end in July 2024!
