Eating Disorder Recovery Mentor

Description: Are you recovered from an eating disorder? Do you feel strong enough in your recovery to help someone who is struggling break free? If so, a mentor volunteer role may be just the fit for you!

DC-based nonprofit Rock Recovery provides affordable and accessible outpatient clinical and support programs for people of all genders with eating disorders. Rock Recovery pairs each of our clinical clients with a mentor who can serve as an encourager and sounding board to them in their recovery journey.

Some examples of what you may do as a mentor include:

  • Meeting your mentee for (virtual or in-person) coffee or meals
  • Having weekly check-in Zoom calls
  • Texting and checking-in on goals throughout the week
  • Praying together or providing spiritual support and encouragement

Mentors are provided thorough training and support as they develop a mentorship relationship with one of Rock Recovery's clinical clients. Mentors are required to check-in with their mentees a minimum of 1x each week. Mentors can meet with their mentees virtually or in-person.

Time commitment: 4 hours per month

Requisite skills and characteristics:

  • Must be 21+
  • Significant personal experience with disordered eating and recovery/lack of disordered behavior for at least two years
  • Active listening skills
  • Empathy
  • Commitment
  • Integrity

**Rock Recovery is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports the journey to freedom from disordered eating through holistic and accessible recovery programming, nationwide faith support service and community education and empowerment.
