Description

GiGi’s Playhouse NYC is the only nonprofit organization in New York City solely dedicated to the development of individuals with Down syndrome of all ages, from birth through adulthood and at every phase of life. We provide therapeutic, educational, social, and creative arts programs and events year-round, at no cost to participants or their families, all while being completely funded by our generous donors and leveraging a 99% volunteer-led model.  

Role Description:

Youth Board members will spread acceptance and awareness for the Down syndrome community through advocacy and fundraising work.

Requirements:

·       Must be a high school student between 13-18 years old.

·       Commit to being a member of the Youth Board for one year.      

  • Dedicate approximately 7 hours monthly during event planning and approximately 3 hours during non-event planning periods.

·       Attend at least 80% of all meetings. Meetings usually occur virtually every other Monday, and more frequently in advance of major fundraising events.

·       Attend in-person events such as our annual Dancing for Down Syndrome event, which the Youth Board spearheads under the guidance of the Associate Board.

·       Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with GiGi’s NYC staff, other volunteers, Board, participants, and families.

·       Contribute to building a positive team spirit.

·       Strong organizational and time management skills.

·       Complete a background check and required consent forms.

·       Complete required trainings.

Responsibilities:

•       Actively participate in meetings and show initiative.

•       Be a role model in the community.

•       Actively represent & spread the word about Down syndrome and GiGi’s NYC.

•       Actively speak out against the R-word.

•       Assist with the planning of our annual Dancing for Down Syndrome event, including but not limited to the following tasks:

o   Prior to the event: create social media content, create marketing messages and other promotional materials, create and prioritize fundraising efforts via your personal fundraising page and sponsorships, assist others with creating their own fundraising page, solicit sponsorships, solicit food/beverage/raffle donations, recruit volunteers.

o   Day of the event: set up for the event, host the event, clean up afterwards.
