Are you passionate about global affairs, human rights, and social justice? Want to contribute to a youth-led collective shedding light on critical underreported issues? Spheres of Influence is currently recruiting volunteer staff writers and editors. This is an ideal opportunity for students, recent graduates, and young professionals to gain a meaningful experience in the field of international relations and journalism. Please note that we are entirely volunteer-based.
Staff Writer
Responsibilities:
- Write one article (800-1200 words) a month about any topic related to global affairs
- Work closely with a team of editors to make necessary changes when needed
- Write content for the publication’s newsletters
- Attend team meetings and workshops
Qualifications:
- Education in international relations, politics, public relations, journalism, history, sociology, economics is preferred
- Demonstrated writing experience concerning issues in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, or Latin America
- Excellent writing and research skills
- Ability to write on a wide range of issues in global affairs
- Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Passionate about global affairs, accessibility, and equity

Editor
Responsibilities:
- Edit 2-3 articles a month about topics related to global affairs
- Work closely with writers, providing them with constructive feedback, guidance, and suggestions for improvement
- Manage the editorial schedule, track progress on assigned articles, and ensure that deadlines are met
- Attend team meetings and workshops
Qualifications:
- Education in international relations, politics, public relations, journalism, English, history, sociology, economics is preferred
- Demonstrated editing experience concerning issues in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, or Latin America
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to have a meticulous attention to detail to catch errors, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies in articles
- Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear and constructive feedback to writers
- Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Passionate about global affairs, accessibility, and equity
