Description

Mexico Earthquake Relief (Location: Puebla, MX)

Are you passionate about education and providing relief after disasters? Volunteer with All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) in Mexico from July 23 to December 1, 2024, to rebuild schools for disaster-impacted students!

Who is All Hands and Hearts?

AHAH provides community-inspired, volunteer-powered disaster relief to global communities. When a disaster strikes, we arrive early and stay late to support those affected and work alongside community leaders to identify immediate and long-term needs. In nearly 20 years of relief work, we have mobilized 66,000 volunteers to over 160 programs, impacting 1.3 million lives worldwide.

Where is this program located?

This upcoming program is located in San Bartolo Teontepec, a beautiful city in Mexico’s state of Puebla. The city is nestled in the country’s east-central region, surrounded by mountains, and filled with a lively and passionate community. In 2017, the people of San Bartolo and the rest of the country were heavily impacted by two major earthquakes. The 8.2 and 7.1 magnitude quakes hit within two weeks of each other, damaging schools, buildings and homes. To this day, the people of San Bartolo are still picking up the pieces from this devastating event.

What would this program provide for the community?

In July, All Hand and Hearts will launch its ninth program in Mexico. The program will rebuild disaster-resilient schools within Mexico’s CONAFE system, addressing education needs in rural and marginalized communities. Our work will include rebuilding two-disaster resilient classrooms, providing a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facility, constructing a playground and coordinating community trainings and workshops.

What does the volunteer work consist of?

Volunteer work will depend on when you arrive and where the team is on the stage of construction they are in, but can include backfilling soil, concrete pouring, hand mixing mortar, bricklaying, heavy lifting, rebar/wood cutting & installation, paint removal, painting and playground design.

All Hands and Hearts guarantees no fees when joining us on program. There is no minimum time commitment and we provide group living accommodation and free breakfast, lunch and dinner on volunteer days.
