Description

Join the Fight Against Weekend Hunger!

Position: Program Coordinator

Are you passionate about ensuring that no child faces hunger on weekends? Backpack Brigade, a nonprofit organization based in Seattle, is seeking two dedicated individuals to join our team as AmeriCorps Weekend Hunger Relief Program Coordinators.

About Us:

The reality is that many students rely solely on the sometimes-free breakfasts and lunches provided at school. So on weekends and breaks, they experience food insecurity from Friday lunch to Monday breakfast. At Backpack Brigade, we believe every student in King County deserves a hunger-free weekend. That's why our community of volunteers delivers weekend-hunger relief every week of the school year. They pack thousands of bags of kid-friendly, easy-to-cook food and deliver them to schools in Seattle, Renton, Highline, and Bellevue. These bags are then distributed by school staff to students in need. We are strengthened by small donors who share our belief in a hunger-free weekend for every child.

Your Role:

As a Program Coordinator, you will be at the heart of our mission. Your responsibilities will include supporting the logistics of our weekend-hunger relief program, ensuring the timely packing and delivery of food bags to our partner schools. You will play a crucial role in  training and supporting on-site volunteers, contributing to the flow of the operation and warehouse, lifting and moving boxes and pallets of food, and ensuring inventory is properly tracked and accounted for.

You must be comfortable lifting and moving 10 to 20 lbs cases on a regular basis as well as plenty of time on your feet. This is an active role.

You will operate a pallet jack and pallet lift as part of your duties.

Compensation: Monthly stipend of up to $2,540, $6,000 education award, Healthcare through Americorp.

Hours: In person. 8:00-4:00PM with generous time-off, alternative service and learning opportunities in the community.

What We're Looking For:

  • A passion for addressing food insecurity and a commitment to Backpack Brigade's mission.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience with volunteer management and community engagement is a plus.

What You'll Gain:

This position offers a unique opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact on the lives of students facing food insecurity. As an AmeriCorps member, you'll receive a living allowance, an education award upon completion, and health coverage.

How to Apply:

If you're ready to be part of the solution and make a difference in the lives of children in our community, submit your resume and at least two references to kyle@backpackbrigade.org. Please use the subject line "AmeriCorps Program Coordinator Application."

Application Deadline: 12/22/23
