Title: Mental Health Support Volunteers

Purpose of this Project:

The purpose of the Mental Health Support Project is to provide assistance and support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges. As a volunteer, your role will be to offer a compassionate and understanding presence, engage in active listening, and provide resources and information to help individuals navigate their mental health journey.

Subjects to be taught:

While volunteers are not expected to be mental health professionals, they will provide general

information and guidance on various topics related to mental health. Some of the subjects that may be covered include:

1. Understanding mental health and common mental illnesses.

2. Coping strategies for stress, anxiety, and depression.

3. Self-care practices for maintaining good mental health.

4. Identifying and managing triggers and warning signs.

5. Promoting healthy relationships and communication skills.

6. Encouraging help-seeking behavior and providing information about available mental health

resources.



Role

Description:



As a Mental Health

Support Volunteer, your primary role is to create a safe and non-judgmental

environment for individuals seeking support. You will offer emotional support,

active listening, and share resources to help them navigate their mental health

challenges effectively. It is important to maintain confidentiality and respect

the boundaries of those you interact with.

Work Activities:

1. Engaging in one-on-one conversations with individuals seeking support.

2. Providing empathetic and non-judgmental listening.

3. Offering general information on mental health topics and resources.

4. Referring individuals to appropriate mental health professionals or organizations when necessary.

5. Assisting in organizing and facilitating mental health workshops or support groups.

6. Collaborating with other volunteers and project coordinators to ensure effective support delivery.

Skills & Qualifications:

1. Strong empathy and the ability to provide emotional support.

2. Excellent active listening and communication skills.

3. Respect for confidentiality and boundaries.

4. Knowledge of mental health issues and willingness to learn and stay updated.

5. Non-judgmental attitude and cultural sensitivity.

6. Ability to work well within a team and collaborate effectively.

Orientation & Training:

Before starting your volunteer work, you will participate in an orientation session to familiarize

yourself with the organization's policies, procedures, and code of conduct.

Training will be provided to enhance your understanding of mental health topics, active listening skills, and appropriate responses in various scenarios. Ongoing support and supervision will also be available to address any questions or concerns that may arise during your volunteer experience.

Project Start Date:

The Mental Health Support Project will begin on any calendar day. Volunteers are expected to

commit to a specific schedule and duration, which will be discussed during the orientation session.

Materials to Bring With:

While specific materials may vary depending on the organization, here are some common items to

bring with you as a Mental Health Support Volunteer:

1. Notebook and pen to take notes and jot down important information.

2. Brochures or informational materials on mental health resources in the local area.

3. Personal mobile device for quick access to online resources or information.

4. Comfortable clothing and shoes for prolonged periods of volunteering.

5. Any specific materials or resources provided by the organization.
