Description

Planting Seeds is a team of Guatemalans, Canadians, and U.S. Americans working together to improve the education landscape and community development across Guatemala. Planting Seeds works to provide high-quality comprehensive education, teacher training, and community and family development programs for low-income families across Guatemala.

The Philosophy of all of our programs centers around love: for one’s self and others, our families, our communities, and our world.

We implement our accredited teaching methodology in 10 pre-schools and have trained over 100 teachers. We accompany our preschools with necessary family-strengthening programs and collaborative strategies to best meet the needs of the communities we work in.

This role will be taking place in our recently opened Community Center in Zone 3, Guatemala City. This Community Center provides a wide variety of services to the community around, from English to art classes, from exercise to karate, and from emotional support circles to community-led development programs.  The classes the English Teacher Volunteer is going to lead will be on Tuesdays 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm (for 10-12-year-old beginners), and Saturdays 9:00 am -10:30 am  (for adult beginners).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and plan engaging and interactive lesson plans based on students' proficiency levels, goals, and Planting Seeds methodology.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Effectively manage class time, transitions, and student behavior.
  • Promote understanding and respect for different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, other volunteers, and staff.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous teaching or tutoring experience, especially in English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey ideas and facilitate a positive learning environment.
  • A passion for teaching and a genuine desire to help others learn and improve their English language skills.
