Description

Women's Global Consultation

MIRR Alliance seeks volunteers to join our Women's Global Consultation. The consultation will be comprised of graduate level researchers with an interest in migration for a fall through summer research engagement. This is an excellent opportunity for students located anywhere around the world, who have a demonstrated interest in the field(s) of human rights, migration, immigration law, refugee rights, gender, xenophobia, or the intersection of the above.

This is a space for thinkers, experts and thought-leaders to meet, explore, share ideas, and contribute to an end-of-year publication which will be published and shared with the NGO community.

Expectations for the role:

  • Commit to attending periodic meetings (evenings or weekends) with other members of the consultation
  • Analyze the underlying causes of xenophobia and anti-immigrant sentiment
  • Understand and amplify the legal mechanisms to protect migrants at the local, national, and global levels
  • Conduct surveys and/or  interviews with field experts/migrants
  • Engage with a network of practitioners, researchers, and graduate students in implementing complementary activities in support of migrants and refugees
  • Contribute to an end-of-year publication

We are especially keen on working with women in affected communities and those with the "lived experience" of im/migration.

The aim of the Women’s Global Consultation is to:

  • Facilitate collaborative and interdisciplinary discussion led by a unique consortium of women advocates, policy experts, immigrants, and allies
  • To identify advocacy entry-points and issue recommendations consistent with ongoing migration debates at the global level
  • Build power and coalesce as a strong and effective voice on behalf of migrants
