Volunteers Needed for Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger

Project Bread, the leading statewide food security organization in Massachusetts, is seeking volunteers to assist with the 56th annual Walk for Hunger. Volunteers will help with logistics, registration, and check-in during the course of the event.

The one-day community fundraiser is set for Sunday, May 5 on the Boston Common, and will feature family-friendly activities, entertainment, music, and stage demonstrations. The Walk for Hunger brings together thousands of community members annually to support Project Bread’s approach to permanently solving hunger, which includes working across policy, programs and prevention to ensure food access for all families in Massachusetts.

Volunteers will be assigned to various stations around the Boston Common with a Project Bread staff lead as their contact. There will be advance training sessions provided on Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1, and additional resources will be provided on Walk day.

Volunteers between the ages of 10 and 16 should be accompanied by an adult. Children ages 10 and under are not permitted to volunteer. Groups are welcome! Each volunteer should register individually and indicate their volunteer group.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Check In & Registration of Walk attendees
  • Handing out materials such as food, water, informational resources and event swag
  • Assisting at photo and video booths
  • Cheering on Walkers along the route
  • And more!

Volunteers should plan to be onsite from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5. Breakfast, water and snacks will be provided, and each volunteer will have a 30-minute break allotted to them at their station.
