Volunteer Board Treasurer Position Description
Position: Volunteer Board Position, Treasurer
Hours per Week: Approximately 5-8 hours/ week (varies significantly week to week)
Term: Able to commit to a 2 year minimum term.
Cost: Board dues of $150/yr; also must cover some travel costs to & from Board meetings
Description
Pathways Togo is a tax-exempt non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to advancing the education
of women and girls in Togo through educational scholarships, educational conferences, and mentoring
activities. Our small nonprofit provides scholarships to 83 girls in Togo with a $95,000 operating budget.
All members must make a personally meaningful monetary gift. The Board of Directors of Pathways is
seeking a dynamic and charismatic leader to help the organization achieve its ambitious goal of providing
individualized and comprehensive support to its scholars.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
● Reconcile U.S. and Togo expenses on a monthly basis, referencing U.S. and Togo bank records, and
QuickBooks entries prepared by team in Togo
● Attend monthly board meetings
● Present quarterly and year-end financials at board meetings
● Assist in preparation for annual audits
● Advise U.S. and Togo teams on financial management as needed, through Zoom, Teams, phone calls,
email, and in-person meetings
● Answer questions about finances as needed
● Ensure that funds are spent in accordance with the budget
● Direct wire transfers to Togo
● Take the lead in assisting in tax preparation
● Manage financial records in Quickbooks
Desired Qualifications
● Ability to read and understand French
● CPA (will be a plus)
● Proficiency in Excel and Quickbooks
● Ability to stay positive and flexible
● Ability to communicate clearly with teams in two countries comprised of individuals who lack
accounting experience
● Responsive to emails
● Demonstrated commitment to the field of education, women’s rights, and/or development
● Experience working in a developing country (will be an added value).
