Disaster Action Team (DAT): Duty Officer (Hotline volunteer, King County)

Duty Officer (disaster hotline volunteer)-The Duty officer is the first line of contact for First Responders. Police/Fire/Ambulance calls the Red Cross after a fire or flood and the Duty Officer is the one that receives the call, takes down all the pertinent information, and then calls the Disaster Action Team (DAT) team and relays the information (Example: Home fire at __ location, 4 Adults, 2 kids, a dog and a cat all need services). Calls are relayed from the Red Cross hotline to your personal cell phone. Duty Officers coordinate with our Disaster Action Team members to initialize an in-person disaster or emergency response and dispatch them to respond to various situations.


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to mission of the American Red Cross.
  • Ability to remotely monitor and track details of DAT responses.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in complex and stressful situations.
  • Proficient with Red Cross systems and online interfaces.
  • Sit and/or stand for minimum two-hour periods.
  • Work for long periods on computer.
  • Speak clearly on the phone and in person.
