Lead a Group Online to Help Newcomers to the U.S. Practice English

Help a newcomer practice English and support other participant's conversations as a leader. Build long-lasting relationships with students from around the world. All volunteer leaders receive ongoing training and support. No prior teaching experience required. Join our community!

Not being able to communicate in English is a major barrier for immigrants and other newcomers starting life here in the U.S. Volunteer Leaders help students improve their English language skills through leading group discussions and having one-to-one conversations.

English in Action may be the beginning of a lifelong interest in a particular area of the world, or even a deeper understanding of your own culture.

Tutor Benefits:

Volunteer Requirements:

1. Attend an online information session
2. Pass an interview for acceptance into the program
3. Take a one time online training
4. Must be 18 years old or older
5. Understands Zoom capabilities (breakout rooms, etc.)

Volunteers and students join a Zoom meeting once a week for two hours. As a Volunteer Leader, we will work with you to set up your group and decide on the day and time.

Online sessions can take place anywhere, as long as you have stable internet access.
