Overview:

The Peace Economy Project (PEP), a non-profit organization committed to fostering peace, economic justice, and the reallocation of resources from military to social and environmental priorities, is seeking a passionate and motivated Policy Advocacy Volunteer. This role is essential for advancing our mission through research, advocacy, and engagement with policymakers and the public on critical issues related to peace and economic justice.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on policies related to military spending, peace economics, and social justice. Analyze current legislation and policy proposals, identifying key areas for advocacy or opposition.
  • Policy Briefs and Position Papers: Develop clear, compelling policy briefs, position papers, and other advocacy materials that articulate PEP’s stance on various issues, supporting our advocacy efforts and public education campaigns.
  • Advocacy Campaign Support: Assist in the planning and execution of advocacy campaigns, including drafting calls to action, coordinating with coalition partners, and mobilizing grassroots support.
  • Legislative Monitoring: Keep abreast of legislative developments related to our mission, informing the team of relevant hearings, votes, and policy discussions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Help build and maintain relationships with policymakers, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to advance PEP’s policy objectives.
  • Event Coordination: Support the organization of policy forums, webinars, and public discussions that raise awareness and engage the community on peace and economic justice issues.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in and commitment to the mission of the Peace Economy Project.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex policy issues in a clear and persuasive manner.
  • Familiarity with the legislative process and an understanding of policy advocacy strategies.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in policy research, advocacy, or a related field is a plus.

Time Commitment:

This volunteer position requires a flexible commitment of approximately 5-10 hours per week, with the potential for increased hours during key advocacy campaigns or around legislative deadlines. This is a remote position that offers flexible scheduling.

Location:

Remote, with opportunities to engage in advocacy activities and events that may be local, regional, or national in scope, depending on interest and capacity.
