Description

Teach English to Immigrants and Refugees (online)

Volunteer ESL Teacher

Torus bridges gaps between people and communities by facilitating transformative experiences of language and culture exchange.

We will match you with an adult English language learner to hold online English lessons. You will meet 1-on-1 with your learner over Zoom. Lessons are 1 hour long and most of our volunteers meet with their learner once per week.

You do not need prior experience as an ESL teacher to get involved.

This role is…

Transformative: You will work directly with members of the immigrant and refugee community. The knowledge and skills you provide can change a person’s life. The 1-on-1 format allows you to tailor your lessons to the specific needs of your learner.

Interpersonal: You will build a relationship with your learner. You can work together as long as both of you would like to participate in the program.

Intercultural: This opportunity creates a space for mutual development of intercultural competency. Both you and your learner will learn to communicate with people of other cultures.
