India: Communications Support Volunteer (Remote)

ACDI/VOCA is currently seeking a Specialist in Communications for an upcoming Service Learning Corps Assignment in India. Tanager is an international nonprofit organization that stands at the forefront of global economic and social development, drawing on over three decades of expertise and proudly affiliated to ACDI/VOCA.

The selected volunteer will support Tanager by finding and developing multimedia content in India; developing donor-outreach materials on our India expertise and other areas; supporting social media efforts to promote Tanager’s projects worldwide; and researching earned media opportunities.

 This assignment is part-time remote support and 2-3 weeks of full time in person support at the India office. The total duration of the assignment will last for 3 months. 

Provisions for International Volunteers:

• All international and local travel
• Per diem for lodging, meals and incidental Expenses
• Travel Visa (if applicable)
• Emergency Medical Insurance
• In-country support from field office staff.

 Responsibilities

• Write and edit project stories for website and attendant promotional social content.
• Develop 1-3 multimedia stories, plus strategies for their use.
• Create donor outreach materials related to our India technical expertise.
• In consultation with Associate Managers, develop schedule of donor communications/outreach for various portfolios.
• In coordination with ACDI/VOCA’s digital marketing manager, develop audience personas and strategy for Tanager’s social channels.
• Develop out simple but innovative social media content to promote India portfolio and multimedia content, as well as other projects –plus support (and possibly as supplement to) existing content calendar.
• Other activities as outlined in the scope of work.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of Masters degree program in journalism, public relations, international relations, or international development.
• At least three years of relevant work experience, preferably in a journalism or communications function.
• Experience in the development sector is a plus.
• Experience developing multimedia content is a plus.
• Excellent written skills for preparing blog, social media and report content.
• Ability to determine appropriate story angles and format to support organizational messaging.
• Ability to develop mini strategies to strategically promote content
• Skill in understanding technical content and repackaging it for a variety of different audiences as needed.
• Understanding and appreciation of cultural nuances, as the volunteer may need to interact with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
• Familiarity with MS Word and skills in communications technology, such as design, photo/video editing, and social media management applications
• Familiarity with basic technology tools such as online collaboration platforms, virtual meeting tools, and document-sharing applications.
• Written and oral proficiency in English. French and/or Spanish could be an asset.
