ALDEA (Advancing Local Development through Empowerment and Action) is a nonprofit organization with a 50+ year history working to improve the health and well-being of indigenous Mayan families in rural Guatemala, with a particular focus on combating chronic childhood malnutrition. Working with ABPD, our partner organization in Guatemala, we implement an integrated development program with strategies that focus on community mobilization, infrastructure development, and nutrition and build the capacity of these communities to address future challenges on their own.
We are committed to further developing and maintaining a Board of Directors that provides effective governance for ALDEA, supports ALDEA’s fundraising activities, and is composed of Directors with diverse experiences, perspectives, skills, cultural backgrounds and lived experiences that collectively enrich the quality of Board thinking, discussions, and decisions.
The Board is currently recruiting interested candidates for the Board as part of our annual recruitment cycle. At this time the Board is particularly interested in individuals who are passionate about ALDEA’s mission and who have one or more of the following attributes:
We encourage applications from individuals who are current or former Guatemalan citizens. We encourage applications from young adults (over 21). We encourage applications from individuals from races and ethnicities that are likely to be underrepresented in nonprofit leadership, including those who identify as Black, Asian, Native, and/or Latino/a.
TO APPLY: Interested candidates are invited to complete the Application to Serve on the ALDEA Board available here by April 15, 2024.
